Dr. Johnson graduated cum laude from Birmingham-Southern College. He completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and obtained his Alabama state dental license in 2006. Dr. Johnson completed his residency in pediatrics in 2008 and is board certified in pediatric dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Johnson is certified in the use of oral sedation and has privileges at Children’s of Alabama and he can also arrange for the provision of general anesthesia, when needed. In 2006, he won two clinical awards in excellence at UAB- American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Pre-doctoral Student Award which is given to the student with the greatest proficiency and interest in pediatric dentistry, and the Birmingham District Dental Society’s award for outstanding clinical ability.

Dr. Johnson leads a team of dentists and staff to Mexico each year where they provide dental services to the underprivileged, and he and the team also make an annual trip to the Yucatan Peninsula. He recently founded the Smile Foundation to help promote awareness of the dental needs in these areas and to help raise money for supplies.

Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association. Dr. Johnson is married to Betts Johnson and is the father of three children-Callie, Sanders, and Mary Carmen.

Lauren Denson, DMD

Dr. Denson-more commonly referred to as “Dr. Lauren”, was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. As a valuable, new associate dentist at Dentistry for Awesome Kids, she offers a warm smile, while providing excellent dentistry to children and teenagers alike.

Dr. Denson was a member of the Belmont Bruins golf team, and she graduated summa cum laude from Belmont University. She completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and obtained her Alabama state dental license in 2013.

She is married to Dr. Doug Denson, who is currently a resident in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UAB. They currently reside in Liberty Park with their English and French bulldogs, “Buck” and “Briggs”.
